On night two (Monday night), we loaded up the kids, pulled in to Chic-fil-a's drive-thru, and went to the Temple for a picnic. On the way we asked Drew and Susanna a few questions about the Temple...
-The Temple is who's house?
-Why is the Temple important?
-How should we dress when we are there?
-How should we talk when we are inside?
And we talked about not only what it means to be married, but married in the temple.
The kids really surprised us with what they knew of it and so our conversations sort of went from there. Once we arrived, we set up our blanket and ate, the kids wanted to play hide-n-seek and then we watched
this video of when the Savior cleansed the Temple. We asked them why they thought He was upset to see the money-changers and other people defiling it and talked about how would we would feel if we heard or saw people being irreverent or mistreating the Temple. We explained that Jesus was showing us how to be respectful and how to treat the House of the Lord and that we need to set an example for others, not only at the temple but at church and in other sacred/special places. It was awesome to have it in plain view, instead of just imagining it from our living room. I know, for me, I was able to really think about our conversation and more fully appreciate it, having the temple right there in front of me, to be on the grounds and feel how special it was.
Drew and Jillian read a book ;)
Susanna ran around poking sticks through leaves calling them "flags"!
This was the funniest hiding spot ever! He was dead-serious hiding there...Mike and I could not stop laughing!
It was a gorgeous afternoon, there was a perfect little breeze and no humidity, and it was really special being there all together. It made me love them all even more and I felt tremendous gratitude to God for the gift of my sweet family. We feel so blessed to have a temple so close to us and love that our children are developing a love for it as well. Can't get much sweeter than that!
