This collection of books can be enjoyed by an age-range of kids...seriously, our kids range from almost 6 years-old to 18 months and they've loved them every year I've pull them out. Heck! I love them every year we pull them out!
1. Spooky Pookie by Sandra Boynton- sorry but there is NO complete book list for kids if it does not include a Sandra Boynton book. When my mom showed me this one, I got so excited! Especially since I call Jillian "pook" or "pookie" all the time! Its a cute one!
2. Little Goblins Ten by Pamela Jane- first of all, the illustrations in this book are beautiful! I love the colors and the style. The characters are so cute and unique. I love the rhymes, particularly because the kids catch on to it quickly. We knew this book by memory and could recite it on the fly last year. Drew and Susanna love to count each character to "make sure" there are just as many as it says there are ;) One of our favorites EVER!
3. Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson- My mom had this one and my kids fell IN LOVE with it after she came to watch them one weekend last October. I pretty sure she even "left" it here on purpose. The storyline is just precious and the ending is almost spooky but just when you think it might get scary, its really just funny! And now you can even watch it on Netflix...its so great, they made it a show!
4. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams- Mike's mom gave this one to Drew a few years ago and it tells the story of how a scarecrow came to be. It is full of fun, repetitive words that build on each other and the big kids take turns seeing who can remember the order of what comes next. Love it!
5. Goodnight Goon by Michael Rex- This book is SO clever! If you haven't read it, you must! Obviously, it is a parody of Goodnight Moon. It is awesome! I honestly think it is like those kid movies where the adults probably enjoy it more than the kids (even when the kids enjoy it tremendously)...its like that. The illustrations are great and emphasize the story in more detail maybe even than the words. Drew and Susanna have caught on to different things in the illustrations as they have gotten older. There is so much to look at and it is really just smartly done.
And since I'm always looking for more to grow our collection, what are some of YOUR favorite books to read around Halloween?! Please share in the comments!
