susanna and the rescue lamb

Over the last few months at church, the children haven taken turns bringing home the "rescue lamb".  Like the parable of the Good Shepard who sought after the little lamb that was lost, it encourages the children to call on and invite children that they haven't seen at church in a while to come back or in some cases, who we just want to know we love them, in an effort to teach service and charity for others.   It has been really successful and the kids are excited each week to see if they will be the one bringing it home for the week.  Well last week, Susanna FINALLY got drawn to take it home and she was so excited!  (She and her friend Reece had been "fighting" over it for weeks...even though it is chosen by random drawing...try explaining that to 2 three-year-olds!)

We got home, we talked about the child we had chosen to check on and thought about how we could reach out to her.  We have also noticed another friend of ours hadn't been lately and knew there had been a death in his family so we actually ended up contacting 2 kids instead of just the one Susanna had chosen.  Drew and Susanna made them both cards and then we brought them each with a bag of skittles!

The first child wasn't home so we left it on his doorstep.  Then when we went to the second child's house, she wasn't home either but right as we were about to leave it on the porch for her, they drove up!  Susanna was so cute and loved showing her card and giving the candy.  Today at church she got to talk in the microphone about how she had reached out and then drew the name of the child who would bring it home this next week.  It was precious and I am so thankful for inspired leaders who think of neat ways to teach our kids how to share the gospel and love others.

Here she is with the lamb...and her thumb in her mouth...
