start of school 2015

I feel like I've been talking about it FOREVER, its hard to believe its started at last!  We have been preparing for school for weeks, it seems, and I am happy to say that we were 100% ready (mentally, physically, and emotionally) when the day(s) arrived!

On Thursday night, Mike gave Drew a father's blessing for back-to-school.  It was so sweet.

He had his first day of kindergarten on Friday.  At his school, they stagger the kindergarten kids for the first 3 days so some started Wednesday and some Thursday, as well.  He goes back tomorrow and every day after that.  I am excited for a regular routine.

He woke up early and walked into our room as Mike and I were getting ready for the day with his entire uniform...shirt, shorts, belt, socks, and shoes, in his arms.  He didn't even want to wait to eat breakfast first! So these 2 sleepy-heads made it happen.  It was a precious moment watching Mike help him get dressed for his first day.  I loves these two boys!

Then Mike hopped in the car to get donuts for breakfast!

And we were dressed and ready with plenty of time for pictures!

I mean, could he get any more handsome?!

We loaded the girls up in the car to drop him off at school.  I had planned to just walk him in but he asked for Mike to.  I was totally ok with that because I knew I might cry if I went in with him.  As he closed his car door, I heard him tell Mike, "I'm going to miss mom most of all."  And I still held it together!  How?  I have no clue!  What a sweet boy!
I could not wait to pick him up at 3:30 and ask about his day.  But he was GROUCHY when he got in the car that afternoon, let me tell you!  It took him a good hour to get to the point where he'd talk seriously to us about the things they did and people he met.  I think he was just exhausted, poor guy.  But since then, he has filled us completely in!  He really did have a great 1st day and I am so proud of my big kid!

Then it was Susanna's turn!  Her daddy gave her a back-to-school blessing Sunday night and this morning she started Pre-K 4 at the same school she attended last year!

She wanted pop-tarts for breakfast!

And this was the best picture I could get of her.  I tried, really tried, to get more but she has such a fake smile when I pull my camera out and she doesn't even look at me...she fake smiles and looks away every time!  What to do with her?!  But she sure looked cute and she was so happy to hop out of the car at pre-school and see her friends from last year...no tears from this mommy.  When we picked her up, she told us all about it...who she sat by, who she played with, showing her kitty for show & tell...it was a good day!

I am so happy that their school years are off to such a good start!  Wednesday is the first day that they will be gone on the same day and from then on, we will get into our new daily routine.  I am looking forward to watching them learn and grow and start to develop into the little people they are going to be and while it is kind of scary, I know they are ready...and I'm ready too.  I am excited for this phase in our lives and need to sit down and really plan out how I am going to support, uplift, teach and guide them as they navigate through school-life.  It should be a fun adventure!
