little things this week

(Susanna wanted to "muggle" Jillian)

These kiddos have been so fun this week...they've said some pretty silly things as well...

Mike came home from work and Susanna said, while standing on her tip toes and talking with her hands "Dad!  I was soooooo kin wet!" (soaking wet)

Drew, while playing outside in the water hose, after seeing a dragonfly, "Mom, boys are dragonflies and girls are arachnicks ".

At the library Susanna was playing in a cardboard spaceship that someone had made to go with a "space" theme in the children's section.  I didn't want them destroying it so I tried to keep her out.  While checking out our books, she snuck back in and Drew came running over to me urgently saying "Mom!  Where is the librarian?!"  I pointed to her and she waved at him and he said, with those big wide eyes of his, "Oh, hey, we have some trouble!  My sister is in. the. spaceship!"

While driving in the car, I decided to practice 'L' sounds with Sue Sue because she pronounces them as 'w's.  I said, "ok Susanna, can you say la la la?"  Susanna.."la la la".  Me.."ok say, la la lollipop!"  Susanna..."la la waweepop!"

While working on a puzzle, I found the right piece and Susanna exclaimed, "that's the perfect piece!  the right piece!  in the whooollllleeee wiiiiiide wiiiiife (life)!!!!"

Drew loves the library and working on the computer.  There is a set of computers with kid games and he was amazing me at how well he can navigate those things.  He loved the game about the human body and actually knows his stuff!  Susanna was kind of a terror while we were there, mostly because I was trying to keep her out of the spaceship.  At one point she was on the floor wailing.  Those sweet librarians are so patient when we are there, and while I'm sure our kids aren't the only ones who aren't quiet when at the library, it sure makes me squirm inside when they get loud.  And trust me, Susanna can be sooooo loud!

Saturday I took her to the store with me and she was walking next to the cart (she is getting really good at cooperating when I let her "help" me shop) holding my hand.  I was thinking about what a sweet moment it was when a man and his wife walked around us from behind.  He winked at me and said "you're going to miss that one day".  I responded saying "yes, sir, I was just thinking about that and I'm soaking it up!"

I have been really reflecting on my role as a mother over the last few months, I think it is being brought on by the fact that now with a new baby I'm more tired and often more frustrated than I have ever been as a mom.  I can remember when I was younger, seeing my older cousins starting their families and I just loved their babies.  I couldn't wait to have my own family and be in that stage of life.  Now that I am there, having our babies and growing our young family, I am really trying to better embrace it.  Not thinking "it'll be easier when..." but to be here and in the moment.  It is a very beautiful time and I love my sweet kids, even when they are screaming in the library or coming in my bed at 3:00 am with a bag of goldfish, even when adding 2 extra minutes to their time out does NOTHING to fix their behavior, and in those moments when I just have to let my baby cry in her bed while I attempt not to burn dinner because I'm running to grab a towel for my 4-year-old who comes in the house wet and full of grass after letting his sister completely soak him with the hose.  It gets crazy folks!  But I love it all...
