A while back, I posted about how Drew would wake up a few times a night to eat and how I was so tired. Many of you told me about crying-it-out, and to be honest, I was not ready for that. I talked to our pediatrician who said that since Drew was actually eating 6 ounces and consistently waking up around the same time at night, that I needed to keep giving him that midnight feeding. A few weeks later, we solved his tummy issues by switching to lactose-free formula, resulting in a happy boy, ready for bed! He is awesome when it comes to taking naps and going to sleep for the night. When I can tell he is tired, around 8:30-9:00, we lay him down in his crib awake and within minutes, he is sleeping. He does this even when we aren't at home. However, he is still waking up to eat one bottle, after which he goes right back to sleep. There have been times when I have been so tired that I just feed him in our bed next to me when he wakes up in the middle of the night (I know, I know) but he always does great when I put him back in his bed. Over the last few weeks, he has been teething (he has 2 at the bottom and we think he is getting on on the top) so he has been a little more cranky these days. Nothing a little baby tylenol won't fix if he is really suffering. Over the last week, he has had a really runny nose and has been running really low fevers. The last few nights, he has been waking up for his usual feeding but screams when I put him back in his crib! Unless I hold him until he is totally out, he will not go down in his crib by himself. We have been worried that he is getting spoiled but are not sure if it is just related to the fact that he isn't feeling himself lately. We have an appointment with his doctor tomorrow to rule out earaches or sickness and if that is a negative, I'm going to have to work on getting him to sleep all night!
I honestly haven't been ready up to this point. I can't just let him cry for hours, and he will cry for 30-45 minutes for sure. It just isn't in me I guess. But, Mike's sister told me about a book that really helped her b/c she was the same way. I have started reading it and plan on putting it into practice ASAP. Wish us luck, I think we are ready for this...

Hi, A, M & D!!! Enjoyed your new post! I can't believe how fast Drew is growing and all his new 'tricks'. What a doll-baby! The photos of him and Jake at the shower are so cute! I am POSITIVE that he is saying "Mama" and that he means YOU! You are doing a great job; remember my always-advice: Trust your instincts! AND.... don't forget to take care of yourSELF!
I haven't heard of that book, but since the author is an LCSW-like Josh-she probably has some great advice that I'd agree with. Good luck. I hope today went well. WHen nothing made Afton happy it was always ear infections. I hope you don't have that issue.
Ouch, good luck with the sleeping! We read 'The Baby Whisperer,' which says that instead of letting the baby 'cry it out,' you can put him to bed, and when he fusses pick him up and soothe him. Once he is calm (but before he falls asleep), put him back in bed. Repeat the cycle until he falls asleep. She said that sometimes it takes 20-50 times for the more stubborn babies. However, the second night you will only have to do it about 3-5 times, and usually by the 3rd night the baby will sleep all the way through! Hopefully that helps! Good luck!
