children's books {part 1- Valentine's edition}

If I could write a love letter to books (yep, books, every single book I love and every book I might potentially love in the future) I would.  But since that's kind of crazy talk, here are a few we LOVE or are about to start loving a whole lot...just in time for this Saturday!  We are giving the kids their Valentine books tonight for our 2nd FHE this month (more to come on that later)...

1.  The Day It Rained Hearts: This one I just discovered and am giving to Susanna.  What a cute story and a perfect reminder of the unique reasons we love the people in our lives.  We've been talking a lot around here about giving gifts with the receiver specifically in mind and this book emphasizes that well.  Plus, wouldn't it be cool if it really did rain hearts every now and then?!  I think it is going to be a hit with that girl!

2.  Snuggle Puppy:  What kid (or adult for that matter) doesn't love Sandra Boynton?!  If I could write her a love letter...oh she's the greatest and her books are fabulous.  We have many Boynton books in our house and have given many as gifts.  Her books are sweet, her rhymes are clever, in fact, of her books that we do have, almost every one we know by memory!  And this cute little song...perfect!

3.  Sense & Sensibility (the Little Miss Austen edition): I almost cried when I saw this book and just had to get it for Jillian this Valentine's Day.  Sense and Sensibility is my favorite book of all time and in baby form?!  Are you kidding me?!  No brainer.

4.  You Are Special: Santa actually brought Susanna this book in her stocking this Christmas but we have been reading it since.  The message and pictures are so sweet.  It teaches such a beautiful lesson about self-worth and love.  Books like that are worth reading over and over.

5.  The Mask of Power Spyro versus the Mega Monsters:  If you have been around Drew at all since about August, you will know that Skylanders is his universe!  I personally have a love/hate relationship with the whole thing but I am 100% supportive of the books!  If it encourages him to read, I'm all for it and he often chooses one of these at bedtime if it is his night to choose the book (Santa brought him one too).  He's going to flip out over this one!

What better way to show someone you love them than to get them a book they would love, right? What books do you LOVE reading with your kids?!

I'm so glad you wrote this post! I just went to the store and bought books for my kids for Valentine's Day... and I came home disappointed in what we got. They just didn't have the books I wanted! (Well, I didn't really know what I wanted anyway.) But after seeing THIS I am about to go order me a You Are Special and Sense & Sensibility! Woohoo!
