Drew's 5th Birthday

I about 2 months behind on this one!  We have had a busy last few months but after this post, we should be caught up!  First of all, I cannot believe Drew is 5...didn't he look like this only a little while ago?
(so many things about this remind me of Jillian, by the way)
It is just cruel how fast our kids grow up...I've been trying to remind myself of this when I get frustrated, impatient, or when I am just too tired to deal with these 3 kids of mine...puts it into perspective when I look back at sweet baby pictures.

Anyway, we had his birthday party the weekend before his actual birthday.  I was planning on having at the park with friends but then the forecast predicted 90% chance of rain so I canceled and just had it at our house and only invited our 3 cousins.  All he really wanted was to play Skylanders, which has completely taken over our lives and his brain these days, and so that is what we did.

It was actually a surprise.  He and Mike went to run a few errands and when they got home, Matthew, Parker and Avery were at our house and it was decorated all for him!  We ate pizza, cake, ice cream, and played Skylanders all day.  Once everyone left and it was all over, he said to me "thanks mom, for the awesome birthday party" and gave me a big hug.  Perfect!

His REAL birthday was the day after Thanksgiving and we were in Dallas.  We got tickets to ICE at the Gaylord Texan Center.  It was super cold but really neat!  When we got there and were waiting to go in, they show a quick video of how the ice is sculpted and stuff and as people gathered in to wait, the worker asked if it was anyones' birthday!  Drew got to go on stage, say his name and age in the microphone and then everyone said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DREW!"
He was being a stinker and not wanting to take a picture with his dad...are we shocked?
And here he is on stage...kind of dark...but he was so brave and cute!
Everything you see in these next few is made of ice...it was the whole Frosty the Snowman story, all the scenes from the animated move.  It was 8 degrees, we had to wear these blue parkas, and had I known just how freaking cold it was, I would have packed mittens and beanies and worn extra socks!
At one point, he said, "i'm ready to get outta this place!"  It was really cold!

Us waiting in our parkas to go inside...
 Me and Jilly...
She was bundled up like a little papoose!
At the end of the exhibit was the nativity all carved from ice.  It was beautiful! These pictures don't show that, the lighting was bad and like all my other pictures, were taken with my iPhone.
When we got back to Aunt Susie's house, she had a cake for him and we sang to him.  He was on cloud 9 with his 2nd skylanders cake and gifts.  We got to Dallas with 3 from home that we let him bring and he came home with about 10!  She spoils him pretty good...
He loves being 5!  For months leading up to his birthday he would comment on how much he couldn't wait to be 5 and all the things he would do once he was 5.  In the weeks leading up to it, he would say "mom, its taking forever for my birthday to be here".  And then it was here and he was so happy.  I love our boy and I am so grateful to be his mother!
